Bio

Lucy taught her first classes, when she was in her late teens, for college students whilst dancing as a hobby at the Pineapple Studios in Covent Garden. However, she rejected a career in fitness, in favour of an artistic career and went on to become an animator and graphic designer for TV. It was only later in life that she finally came back to dance and fitness, qualified as a teacher and then as a Personal Trainer. She now runs her own successful business the Body Fitness Company.

Lucy is passionate about dance and fitness and believes strongly that it should be accessible to everyone.

  • Lucy's tips

    * Don’t spend hours in the gym working half-heartedly; work for shorter periods but at a higher intensity.
    * Every morning do 25 press-ups, 50 curls, 50 reverse curls and 60 oblique twists, whatever else happens that day, you will know you have done your abs!!!
    * Avoid all white flour foods.

  • Proudest moment

MA (RCA), BA Hons (Middlesex Polytechnic), Director The Body Fitness Company, my four children.

Description

Lucy continues with session 5 of the extremely popular Introduction to Fitness online workout videos.

Week 5 is also 50 mins long (like week 4), but the fitness intensity level of the workout has been upped as your cardio vascular system will now be able to cope with a slightly higher demand. In this exercise class last weeks routine becomes this weeks warm up, a very simple new routine is taught using hand weights and you continue with press-ups, back and abdominal work to continue to develop strength and stamina.

This now starts to feel like you are working out and you will be able to monitor how you are fairing by comparing the level of activity in session one to the level of activity in session five. Lucy still wants you to try and do this five times a week before progressing on to level 6 the final workout of the course.

Hi Martina, have a chair handy for this section in the class. Sit upright on it, straighten one leg out in front of you and lift up and down, try 10 each side. This exercise works the thighs nicely.

Hi Rachel, yes you're right everyone is different when it comes to weights. Try using a 1kg, remember it's the technique that count and not the weight.

Just finished my 1st session and I'm a little bit discouraged. I have an old knee injury and I can't do the squats or the lunges (not even halfway). I tried to fill up the time by dancing around with the weights, but do you know of any other exercises I could do instead? It would be sad if my bum and thighs had to miss out because of my knee ;)

HI Lucy, I have just done my first day of session 5 and was wondering what weights you would recommend for this? I used 1.5kg which seemed a bit much. I know everyone is different, but what did you envisage for this class?
Really enjoying it by the way, and definitely feel a difference. I am beginning to see my muscle tone again! :)

Hi Lucy,Just before I leave you again to move to a higher level of exercise I felt that I needed to thank you again for taking me from a low level of fitness and got me ready to step up a gear. This is the third time that I have used your Intro series to get me to a level where I am happy to increase my workload and generate even more sweat. Retirment is soon to be with me and I want to be fitter so that I can enjoy this with an increased level of fitness. Thanks again for making this transition fun and I still smiled at your banter during the exercises. I may see you in one of your other series soon but I have moved to Paul Gulliford as the next step in my plan and after four weeeks with him I hope to move up another gear so thank for creating this platform for me and making it strenuous fun!! :-)

Uh, I just finished the fifth day of Intro Fit 5...there is a lake around me (because of sweating), but I never thought I could reach this point so quickly and in a good mood :).Thank you again Lucy, next week I'll go into Intro Fit 6 and, if I'm still alive, I'll write again :). Have a nice week, Camelia.

This is a great series, I have just logged on to have a look and cant believe how active all these sessions are. I just wanted to say I have known Lucy a very long time and her classes were always packed because she taught so thoroughly so you definatly are in good hands. It is hard at the beginning but it really does get easier quicker, so just keep chipping away at it bit by bit. Anna Lovelock

Hi David, great to hear you are doing so well, and yes the developments of constantly repeating an exercise are quite quick. People avoid press-ups because they require real effort, but you get such great gains and I am sure you will see your chest muscles and arm muscels become a bit more reactionary when you flex them.Looking forward to those Egyptian pictures.....can you bring me back a Sphinx please? I have at last mastered the complete set of 3/4 push ups after 5 sessions and just have to master the dreaded 'plank' to be fully happy with Intro Fit 5. I did not think that this was possible just 5 days ago as the step from Intro Fit 4 just seemed to be a rather large one. I am really getting with the program and at the age of 62 I would still recommend this set of exercises to anyone, just so long as you do as Lucy says and listen to your body as you go through each of the sessions!! Must go now my sixth session is waiting to be done.

I have just completed my third session of Intro Fit 5 and still have trouble with the dreaded push ups!!! Perhaps I will look for some added inspiration when I visit the pyramids here in Egypt where I am visiting later this afternoon and may try and get someone to photograph me in one of Lucy's famous torture positions whilst I am there!!! Yours very sweatfully, (Just finished the session!!!)David Mitchell.
